Scootin' around

This summer is flying by.  I just want to post a quick, pictureless update on my family.  We are still facing health issues with Jeff.  It's so bizarre to think that October everything was fine, for the most part with him.  Then suddenly, the matter of a few days things escalated like they did, and since then he's been hospitalized for a month, had a major surgery, and a pacemaker put in.  The orthostatic hypotension is still around.  We are working on narrowing down a cause, and hopefully finding a combination of things that will help make it better.  Some days he can stroll (which for him means holding on to a shopping cart, and hoping BP holds out) around a store, some days (last Tuesday) going out results in passing out (movies and dinner).  It's frustrating (among other descriptions) of having to deal with this problem.  We are unable to do things most take for granted.  Walking downtown, going to the zoo, going on vacation...these are all things we wanted to do this summer with Ada.  It's impossible to do those things when you can't even walk to the car sometimes.  So today Jeff got something no 33 year old wishes to require...a scooter.  Neither he nor I wishes he had to have it.  There's a little stigma to it....even if it is just a personal thing.  He said he didn't want to get one, getting one would be like a nail in the coffin.  I understand his thinking.  He has said he didn't want people who knew him to see him on it.  I understand that too.  Then we think about the some of the things he's missed since this started....downtown, the zoo, vacation, the mall.  It's exciting for us that we can do those things.  Sure, it would be great if he could just walk to do it.  We want him to use it as little as possible, and not become dependent on it, but until we get it sorted out he'll be able to have possibilities.
