Elephantshoe revisited-The laundromat

I have a new idea for a series of blogs.  The plan is to do one every Monday.  We'll see how it goes.  Basically it's going to be a look at one of the photos from our fine art site.  The site by the way is Elephantshoe.net.  We created the site when we got engaged as a sort of information site for the wedding...maps to the church, registry, etc.  Then after the wedding we didn't want for the site to just die, so we decided to create a fine art site with our photography.  Some of the photos were taken way before we knew each other, some while we were dating, some on our honeymoon.  We had the intention of adding some to the site as we go along, but haven't as of yet.  Anyway...here's the photo whose story I will tell you today:

This was taken in Calhoun Falls at a laundromat that no longer exists.  It was torn down to make room for the new wider Highway 72.  I took this photo during my first photography class ever, which was at Lander University in 1999.  It was part of the final portfolio for the class; my theme was Calhoun Falls-Small Town America.  I used a Minolta 35mm camera...yep, film.  I also developed and printed this baby myself.  Smell that dark room fixer!  The sign of course just strikes most people as funny, which is hopefully the proper reaction.  I like how the doors to so many of the washers were open...not staged.  I basically walked in snapped a few frames and left.  If I looked in my notes I could tell you the exact camera settings and development settings...and whatever it was it worked, but to look that up is a little too much effort and you probably don't care.  This one is actually one of the ones hanging in our living room.  I hope you think of this as a quirky piece, and you enjoy it!
